9. Take one minute out of your day to tell someone what a great job their doing. Our jobs in hospitality are dependent on whether people have a good experience when they stay with us. It’s pretty funny when you think that what we sell is basically a used mattress and a toilet. We send out surveys to guests and clients, then pray for perfect 10's. Welcome to the hotel business.
So here are two questions for you: One, are you doing the same for your employees and coworkers, and two, are you doing this outside of the hotel?
In sixty seconds, you can make someone’s day. Make it a habit to daily pull aside one employee or coworker for one minute and tell them, with sincerity and specificity, how their positive habit or action has helped contribute to our success.
Outside of work, we should be submitting surveys at Starbucks or Target, especially if it was a good experience. I mean, come on... practice what you preach, right? Heck, can you imagine if we were to pull the manager aside at the restaurant we just ate at and tell him how great the service was? Awesomeness, no doubt. Better yet, what would happen if we were to tell our spouse or children how much we appreciate them? What means one minute to us could mean the world to someone else.
Plus all of that karma is going to work it’s way back to you somehow. It’s really easy to do….Just ask, “Hey, got a minute?”
