10. Visit with people one on one.
Whether they be clients, vendors, associates, colleagues, or bosses, so much more can be accomplished when meeting with people tete-a-tete. Today, PDA no longer stands for “public display of affection” (although my junior high school principal, Dr. Carlton, might disagree with me on that), and I think that’s a real shame that our world now revolves around these little electronic gadgets. We've been reduced to communication over emails, phone calls, texting, skyping, blogging, memos, and “bumping” instead of talking face to face. While they are not bad methods per se, doesn't if feel like we are guilt of avoiding people altogether? Are you? Here's a good one... Are your competitors?
People matter and they deserve a piece of you. Give it to them, and for goodness sake, give them your full attention when conversing please. Here's where Mom pipes in, and she's right you know, "Sit up straight and look at me when I'm talking to you. Your Blackberry isn't that interesting and whoever is on the phone isn't going to die if they don't talk to you right now. Let it ring. That's why we have voice mail, kid. Now, tell me what's on your mind." Thanks Mom.
